MY STORY

I have more than 30 years of experience in oral and public history. I have degrees from the University of Texas at Austin [BA, MA, with advanced work toward my PhD], and have worked with various institutions over the course of my career, including NASA/Johnson Space Center, the Library of Congress, the National Institutes of Health, the University of Texas School of Law, and the University of Virginia. I have also worked in museum publications, public affairs, and marketing for several institutions and non-profits. I have written and edited numerous publications in the field of oral history. My publication, African American Railroad Workers of Roanoke: Oral Histories of the Norfolk & Western (History Press, 2014) was based on an oral history project I carried out for the Historical Society of Western Virginia. I conducted twenty hours of interviews with Nannie Berger Hairston (1921-2017) who was a civil rights pioneer and community leader for the Nannie Berger Hairston Oral History Project with the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. I am currently working on a manuscript to tell her story in her own words and to be able to share her much needed wisdom with a wider public. Current oral history clients include The Phillips Collection, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC, and the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County, Tennessee.
